1990年代，凭借着“三来一补、两头在外、大进大出”的发展模式，东莞经济迅速崛起，成为举国皆知的“世界工厂”。多家酒店也是在那个时期如雨后春笋般建成开业。
据东莞市国民经济和社会发展统计公报显示，1997-2007年这十年间，东莞的GDP增长率一直保持在18%左右的水平，远高于广东省的GDP增长率。
1996年，总投资超过1亿元的东莞寮步金凯悦大酒店建成，这是东莞首家四星级酒店，也是中国首家乡镇四星级饭店。随后，越来越多的民营资本进入酒店市场，黄河山的常平梵尔赛酒店正是其中之一。
据东莞市国民经济和社会发展统计公报显示，从2003年到2008年，东莞市星级酒店数量依次为75家、85家、88家、96家、97家、99家，呈现出逐步上升的趋势。一直到2008年前后，东莞星级酒店的数量都在全国排名第三，仅次于北京和上海。
然而，盛况只延续到2008年。据东莞市国民经济和社会发展统计公报，自2008-2014年，东莞的GDP增速开始波动下滑。2012年，东莞市GDP增速为6.1%，全省垫底，2009年到2014年这6年间，东莞有4年的GDP增速未达预期。
2014年初，扫黄打非风波又让东莞酒店业雪上加霜，危机全面蔓延至整个东莞酒店业。此后，东莞酒店业进入了发展的瓶颈期。

The hotel was great. Clean, well serviced, and well situated. The staff were also very friendly and could speak some English. Although this is the Garland Hotel, we had full facilities of the main hotel as well. The only disappointing thing was the clear window between the bathroom and the bedroom. There was a screen that could be pulled down, but this still left a gap that those in the bedroom were able to see through. The screen was on the bedroom side as well. It would have been better fitted on the bathroom side of the wall.

还方便。就在趵突泉旁边，打的也方便。出差住住不错。靠近泉城广场。周边吃饭的地方也不少。总体来说还可以吧。
