马来西亚富豪郭鹤年被称为“酒店业之王”、“香格里拉之父”。在20世纪60年代末期，郭鹤年即开始向酒店行业进军，1971年，他在新加坡与新加坡经济发展局合建成了新加坡第一家豪华大酒店——香格里拉大酒店，这是当时新加坡最早建起的豪华饭店之一。如今，遍布亚洲的香格里拉酒店，构成了亚太地区最大的酒店集团之一，郭鹤年也成了名扬亚洲的“酒店大王”，风行于全世界的“亚洲人的待客之道”，就是他提出来的。
在他的心中，传说中的香格里拉就是个世外桃源，他希望自己的酒店成为所有人心中的世外桃源，清静不受干扰，新加坡香格里拉大酒店连续被评为世界上最好的酒店之一，酒店位于新加坡乌节路，共有747间房。

The hotel was great. Clean, well serviced, and well situated. The staff were also very friendly and could speak some English. Although this is the Garland Hotel, we had full facilities of the main hotel as well. The only disappointing thing was the clear window between the bathroom and the bedroom. There was a screen that could be pulled down, but this still left a gap that those in the bedroom were able to see through. The screen was on the bedroom side as well. It would have been better fitted on the bathroom side of the wall.

还方便。就在趵突泉旁边，打的也方便。出差住住不错。靠近泉城广场。周边吃饭的地方也不少。总体来说还可以吧。
